George Silas Bowers, who lived about five miles southwest of Mount Pulaski, Illinois, suffered a stroke at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, 1948, at his home, and was removed to the Deaconess Hospital, Lincoln, in the Schahl ambulance. He passed away at 7:15 p.m. Sunday, being in the hospital less than three hours. His health had not been the best for several months. He was aged 65 years, 9 months, and 29 days. Mr. Bowers was born January 22, 1883, southwest of Mount Pulaski, in the community where he spent most of his life, a son of Leander and Caroline Rector Bowers, who came to this community from Greenville, Tenn. In Decatur, Illinois, on December 2, 1907, he married Miss Frances Curtis of Mount Pulaski vicinity. Mr. Bowers engaged in farming all his life. He was a member of the Copeland Christian Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Glenn, Mount Pulaski; one grandson, Ian Bowers; two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Copeland, Mount Pulaski, and Mrs. Lucy Phillips of Lincoln; and two brothers, Clarence and Claude Bowers of Mount Pulaski. The body was removed to the Schahl Funeral Home, remaining there until the hour of the funeral services.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, at the Copeland Christian Church, southwest of Mount Pulaski, conducted by Rev. J. Wayne Staley of Washington, Ill. Two hymns, "Going Down the Valley" and "No Night There", were sung by Miss Glenda Copeland and Miss Eloise Quandt, with organ accompaniment by Mrs. Ellis Quandt.

Burial was in the Steenbergen Cemetery, near where Mr. Bowers lived. The pallbearers were: Willis Ayers, Ellis Quandt, Donald Copeland, Neal Gulso, Robert Myers, and Herbert Shellhammer.
