"Happenings at Lincoln"



Mrs. Hubbard is dead, expires in her 89 year.



Lincoln, Jan. 15 -- Mrs. Mary Hubbard of 110 Water Street, past away this morning at 4:35 at St. Clara's Hospital after she had been a patient there for a few days, following an operation.
Mary Smith was born in Lorraine, France, on March 17, 1830, and the year of 1836 saw her on her way to the United States with her parents. They settled at Portsmouth, O. She was married in the year 1839 at Portsmouth to Nicholas Hubbard and came to Logan county in 1853 and settled on a farm in Prairie Creek Township, where the Hubbard family resided until Mrs. Hubbard retired to Lincoln. Mr. Hubbard preceded her in death in 1885, and in 1893 she retired from the farm and has resided on Water street since that time with her daughter, Miss Ann Hubbard.
She is survived by the following children: Nicholas of Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. Mary Ryan, Delavan; Miss Anna Hubbard, of Lincoln; G. H. Hubbard, of Mt. Pulaski; J. J. Hubbard and Louis Hubbard of Chicago. Three children have preceded her in death - Emerich Hubbard, who died in infancy; Mrs. Theresa Catherine Longan, who died in 1886, and Fred Hubbard, who died in 1910. She has 23 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
The remains will rest at the family home until Saturday morning at 8 o'clock when funeral services will be held at St. Patrick's church, of which deceassed was a staunch and loyal member, Rev. Mr. Mulgrew in charge. Interment will be in the Catholic cemetery at Delavan by the side of her husband, Nicholas Hubbard. The funeral party will go by train.

Additional details gleaned: Nicholas died Oct, 19, 1885. Surviving grandchildren are: Wiley, Fred, Grace Hubbard and Mary Hubbard Craven, of Omaha, NB; James W. Ryan at the old homestead; Mrs. Anna Ryan Meyers, Kansas City; Nicholas F. Ryan, Mayme L. Ryan, Delaven, IL; Fred W. Longan, Lincoln; Louis W. Longan, Detroit; Nicholas, John F., Paul H., G. Harold, Katheryn, Dora, Nora, all of Mt. Pulaski; Albert D., Edwin L., Harold L., George S., Harry, Helen Hubbard, Blanch and Maynard A. Hubbard, all of Chicago. All of the children of the deceased are in the city except Nicholas Hubbard, having been in the city several days preceding the death of the mother. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 8:00 at the St. Patrick church.
