Elijah Albert Morris died at the Deaconess hospital in Lincoln Illinois Thursday Evening March 20 at about 5 o'clock after a prolonged illness following a stroke of apoplexy that overcame him about a year ago.He was taken to the hospital early in last December and remained there until his death. He had been in poor health for two or three years. This condition was thought to have been the result of a hard fall sustained during the erection of a residence building on which he was employed several years ago. He and his family moved to a farm near Elk City Okla and the expectation of improving health failed to materialize. They returned to Middletown early in 1912 and Mr. Morris was soon stricken with the fatal illness from which he never recovered.The deceased was born seven miles west of Lincoln on November 4 1857. His parents were Elijah Morris and Elizabeth Morris.He grew to manhood in that neighborhood and on December 25 1875 was united in marriage to Clarissa Young.The ceremony being performed at the home of Mr. Garrison Sr. To the union six children were born all of which are living. Their names are Samuel Morris, Ruth Morris, Lewis Morris, Trecie Morris and Mrs. Tina Johnson all of Middletown and Mrs. Ada Penman of Tower Illinois. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Morris lived on a farm in Mill Grove until 1902 except for three years in Kansas. The family moved to Middletown in 1902 and have resided there since except for the year in Oklahoma.He followed carpentering and kindred work for an occupation while living here. Besides his wife there are two brothers surviving.They are Alonzo Morris of York Nebraska and Solomon Morris of this vicinity. Four grandchildren also survive. During his life he betrayed the communicable traits of a loving husband and father and dwelt in peace with his neighbors. The funeral was held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock with Rev P.C. Sommerville preaching the funeral sermon.The interment was made in Irish Grove cemetery. The church was filled with the friends of the departed and floral offerings were very beautiful. The pall bearers were Jas.Cotl,E.H. Mullen, Jas. Turner, L. Boyer, Frank Warren and Ed Glenn.The age of the deceased at death was 55 years,1 month and 17 days.

Elijah Morris, one of the board of commissioners of this township died on Sunday October 13. His remains were laid to rest in Lucas Cemetery.

Mrs. Clarissa Morris passed away July 29 at St Clara's hospital in Lincoln where she had been a patient for nine weeks following the fracture of a hip. The body was taken to Holland & Barry funeral home where it remained until the time for the funeral which was held at Middletown Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The ministers were Rev.C.W. Simpson and Rev.J. L. Blough. Spenser Littleton with Mrs. David N. Hanger as accompanist sang "In The Garden", and "Beyond The Sunset." Then pall bearers were William Johnson,James Snyder.V.C. Cline,Elmer Williamson, and Grant Heatherwick. Burial was in Irish Grove Cemetery.

Clarissa Young daughter of James and Ellen Sturgeon Young was born Nov. 30 1857 in Logan county. She was married December 25 1875 to Elijah A. Morris the ceremony being performed at the home of Mr. Garretson Sr. With the exception of three years in Kansas Mr. and Mrs. Morris resided on a farm in Mill Grove until 1902 when they moved to Middletown. Following the death of her husband on March 20 1913 Mrs. Morris made her home with her daughters for varying periods. She was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harmon Johnson when she accidentally fell and was injured.

Mr. and Mrs. Morris were the parents of six children of whom five survive. A daughter Mrs. Trecie Corsaut died October 14 1918. The surviving children are Samuel and Lewis Morris of Middletown;Mrs Ada Penman of Springfiewld;Mrs Ruth Zimmerman of New Holland and Mrs. Tina Johnson Greenview route. There are eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and one great great grand daughter.

She was a member of the Methodist church. Her age was 92 years 7 months and 29 days. She maintained a deep interest in life and her surroundings even to advanced age.

Mrs. Samuel Morris died at 3:10 p.m. Friday Nov 1 at Deaconess Hospital where she had been taken four days before after suffering a paralytic stroke at her home in Middletown while she was preparing for the evening meal.

The body was taken to the Wright funeral home and Saturday to the family home here.Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Middletown Presbyterian Church. Rev. John L. Blough preached the sermon. Rev. C. Ward Simpson read the scripture and offered prayer.

Mrs. Foy Wise sang "Sunrise" and "Shadows" with Mrs. Howard Allison as accompanist.

The many beautiful floral tributes were in charge of members of the Loyal Band and Royal Neighbors. The casket bearers were:Harmon, William and Jerry Johnson,James Snyder,Henry Zimmerman and Thomas Penman. Interment was at Irish Grove Cemetery.

Elisabeth Hardy daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hardy was born April 1 1874 at Troy Kansas where she lived until her marriage to Samuel Morris which took place December 14 1910 at St Joseph Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Morris took up residence at Middletown which had since been their home.

She devoted her life to the care of her family. She was a helpful neighbor and took an interest in civic affairs serving several terms as school director. Mrs. Morris also had a distinct talent for drawing and her home contains many portraits and other sketches which she made.

She was a member of the Presbyterian church, the Royal Neighbors of which she had been leading spirit for many years and the Middletown Woman's Club.

Surviving are the husband,one son Samuel Jr. one granddaughter Norma Jean Morris who lives with her parents at Bensenville ,one sister Mrs. A.J. Funkhouser Robinson Kansas;one brother Alfred Hardy Troy Kansas;two half sisters Mrs. James Latta Wichita Kan.and Mrs. Gussie Virtue Longview Washington and one half brother David Hardy Butte Montana.

Her age was 72 years and 7 months.

Lewis Morris,71, for many years a local carpenter and builder passed away at 7:45 a.m. Aug 24 at Lincoln Memorial Hospital where he had been taken the previous Monday. He had been ill for two months. The body was taken to Holland and Barry funeral home and on Monday removed to the Morris home here.

Funeral services were held Tuesday,2 p. m., at Middletown Methodist church with Rev. Roy Adams officiating. Mrs. Velda Davison sang"In The Garden" and "Beyond The Sunset." Mrs. Lynn Duginger was accompanist. The pall bearers were Howard Prince,Dean Poole, James Agnew, Ananias Sparks, CArl Boward and C.C. Kerschner, Burial was at Irish Grove Cemetery. The deceased son of Elijah and Clara Young Morris was born Feb. 21 1886 in Logan County. The family moved to Middletown in his early youth and he had lived here since. He engaged with his brother Sam in construction work.

He was married Oct, 19 1904 at Lincoln to Miss Kate Davis who survives. Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Leona Agnew, Springfield;Mrs Geraldine Johnston,Middletown;three sisters,Mrs. Tina Johnson,Greenview route,Mrs. Ada Penman Springfield, and Mrs. Ruth Zimmerman,Lincoln;a brother Samuel Middletown. There are four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A son and daughter preceded him in death.

For a period Mr. Morris served on the village board and superindendent of the water system since it was installed.
