Robert Edgar Newton Niewold, 73, well known and respected resident of this
community for over 27 years, died Sunday morning at 5:30 o'clock at the
county home where he had been in failing health for the past two years.
He was born on August 26, 1884, in New Holland, IL. the son of Henry and
Harriet (Derr) Niewold. He grew to young manhood there, attending the schools
in that area. In 1908 he went to Hebron, NE. to reside, and that same year
married Anna May Martin, who passed away April 16, 1955. Their first married
years were spent farming in Nebraska, later moving to Waterman, where Mr.
Niewold did carpentry work. In 1930, the family came to Sycamore to make
their home.
Due to ill health, Mr. Niewold was forced to retire from his carpentry
work earlier than he had hoped to. He possessed fine quality of character and
was liked by all who knew him. He was especially devoted to his home and
family and was a member of the Federated Church for many years, also a member
of the local Masonic Lodge.
Surviving his demise are four sons; John, Robert, Edgar and Theodore, all
of Sycamore; one daughter, Mrs. Gretta May Holbo of Ione, CA.; 14
grandchildren; and one brother, Theodore of Lincoln, IL.
Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, who died
in infancy, and one sister Hattie of New Holland, also two brothers, Charles
of Sandwich and James of New Holland.
Final services are being conducted this Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock
from the Van Natta Funeral Home, with Rev. H.L. Michael of the Federated
Church in charge. Burial will take place in the Elmwood Cemetery here.
