Laura Alice Sheets Perry, daughter of Jacob V. and Amy E. Sheets; was born January 4, 1865 at the Old Sheets Home in Orvil township and departed this life on Sunday, April 17, 1932, at 10:45 a.m. at the St. Clara's hospital in Lincoln after an illness of forty-eight hours.
She attended the country school near the home of her birth and received her education there. When a girl she was untied with the Christian church at Bethel. On December 5, 1886, she was united in marriage to John Perry. Their home was made on a farm in Orvil Township, and later purchased a farm near Union and resided there until three years ago when they retired and moved to Lincoln. Her father departed this life several years ago and her mother about four years ago.
She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, two daughters, and four sons: Mrs. Nellie B. Bowles, of Lincoln; Mrs. Georgia M. Gemberling, Emden;, John R., Harold G., Wayne C. and Lawrence J. of Lincoln. Also seven grandchildren. Also one sister Mrs. H.F. Walker, Peoria; and three brothers, John and William Sheets, Emden; and Robert W. Sheets, of Lincoln; beside a host of neighbors and friends.
She was a kind and loving mother. The husband suffered a stroke of paralysis two weeks ago. She tenderly cared for him until she was stricken. She has reared a large family, and loved them all. Her thoughts were for others and not for herself. We could go to her in sorrow and in joy and she would share them with us. No words can ever express her devotion to her family. She did all that was possible.
Our kind and loving wife and mother has been call home. The family circle has been broken. Mother has gone on but her virtues will linger with us throughout the coming years. Contributed.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon. April 20 th at one o'clock at the funeral home in Lincoln and two o'clock at Bethel church. There was a large attendance at both services. Mrs. Goldsmith and Mrs.. Rademaker sang, " Abide with me, " at the Lincoln service; "In the Garden, " "Whispering Hope," and "Shadows," at the church. Rev. Hooe delivered the sermon.
The flowers were beautiful and many in number. The following served as pallbearers; Otho Quisenberry, Lavelle Gilchrist, Steve Brandt, Lee Quisenberry, Bert Carnahan and Clifford C. Ogle. Burial was made in Bethel Cemetery.
